Amid the buzz and inevitable social media comparisons with popular global crime dramas, director Hansal Mehta has firmly stated that Family Business, starring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma, is an entirely original story and not inspired by any international series. Mehta acknowledged that in today’s streaming era, where audiences consume content from across the world, thematic similarities are bound to be noticed. However, he stressed that similarities in genre do not mean similarities in storytelling. According to him, Family Business is deeply rooted in Indian realities, relationships, and social structures, making its narrative and emotional core distinctly homegrown rather than borrowed or adapted.

What sets Family Business apart, Mehta explained, is its focus on the internal conflicts of a family bound together by power, ambition, and unspoken resentments. Anil Kapoor’s character represents authority, legacy, and control, while Vijay Varma’s role brings unpredictability and moral complexity into the equation. The clash between generations, ideologies, and personal desires forms the backbone of the story, going beyond just crime and power struggles.
